Meza-Clay claims IBA belt

CHESTER, W.Va. - Monty Meza-Clay made a grand entrance into the ring for his first world title fight. The Rankin boxer was escorted by Steelers Joey Porter and Casey Hampton, who carried his championship belts. That wasn't the only thing flashy about the diminutive Meza-Clay, who wore sparkling blue tights with white fringe dangling from his protective cup instead of traditional boxing trunks. Diaz & Palyani even after twelve

Former Olympians David Diaz (USA) and Ramazan Palyani (Republic of Georgia) fought to a 'Majority Draw' in their twelve round battle for the vacant IBA World Lightweight Title this past weekend at the Grand Victoria Ballroom, Rising Sun, Indiana.
With the draw decision the IBA title remains vacant with both camps talking rematch for early next year.  Promoter: Dominic Pesoli's '8' Count.

Albert upends Beaupierre

In Choctaw, Mississippi, Former Nigerian Olympian Eromoselle Albert took home the vacant IBA Continental Jr. Middleweight title by twelve round technical decision over Dorian Beaupierre when an accidental clash of heads sent this one to the scorecards midway through the final round. With the partial round added to the final score Albert lead on two cards at 115-113 and the third judge had
it all even at 114 apiece. Albert now 13-1-6KO's.  Promoter: Big Star Promotions

(DEC 9, 2005) With her second straight victory over top level competition, Holly Holm is the best of her weight class with just 15 fights. After annihilating former World Champion Christy Martin earlier in the year, Holly destroyed IFBA World Champion Mia St. John by unanimous decision, who had also gone the distance with Martin. Castaneda retains Title
December 2, 2005

Sacramento's Rogelio Castaneda (139.50) overcame a very determined Ernesto 'Baby' Zepeda (139.0) to retain his World Jr. Welterweight title by knockout in round three.  Following an uneventful first round Zepeda took charge early in round two
and maintained his advantage until a hard right hand from Castaneda midway through round three turned the tide in the champions favor.  Sensing he had hurt Zepeda Castaneda fired punches with both hands and from all angles until the challenger hit the deck.  After the second knockdown referee Jon Schorle halted the fight at 2:50 of the round.  Castaneda improves to 21-10 with 7 KO's.  Promoter:  Don Chargin Productions, Telefutura and the Feather Falls Casino in Oroville California.

Crowd favorite Eric Regan trailed by one point on all cards after five
rounds when his well timed left hook dropped challenger Miguel Martin face first near the end of round six.  Following the mandatory eight count Martin would take another punch as the bell sounded ending the round, he returned to his corner on unsteady legs. Regan continued his assault in round seven ending the fight at the 1:45 second mark when Martin signaled referee Marty Sammon that he could not continue.  With the win Regan retains his Continental Middleweight Title and moves his professional record to 25-2 with 16 knockouts.Promoter:  Don Chargin Productions & Feather Falls Casino Attendance:  2,642

  IBA title recognition
November 16,  2005

Effective 10-30-05: Dean Chance and the International Boxing Association have withdrawn title recognition from World Middleweight Champion Fulgencio Zuniga for failure to defend within the specified timeframe. Zuniga's last appearance in an IBA ring occurred on 4-8-05.  Effective 11-10-05: Dean Chance and the International Boxing Association have withdrawn title recognition from America's Welterweight Champion Golden Johnson for failure to defend within the specified timeframe. Mr. Johnson won his title on 2-25-05 and failed to defend.  Both fighters shall enter the IBA World Ratings for the month of December with a ranking based on their current ring activity.

Underrated veteran Sam Reese took home the vacant IBA Continental Super-Middleweight Title with a wide points win over local favorite Norman Jones.  Jones, a tough inside fighter, had won 12 of his last 15 including an easy win over the respected Christian Cruz but could never solve the southpaw style of Reese who won by large margins on all cards at 118-109 twice and 118-110.

On a cool October evening in the city of Almaty Kazakhstan Marat 'Sniper' Mazimbaev entered the record books as the first fighter ever from that country to fight for and win a World title on home turf.  Using a style that can be best described as a 'Modified Kostya Tszyu' Mazimbaev ripped hard hooks to both the head and body of opponent Luis Doria from the opening bell.  To his credit Colombia's Doria remained game throughout and on more than one occasion stood his ground and traded with the heavier handed Mazimbaev to the delight of the partisan crowd. (OCT 1) Tonight at the Reno Events Center in Reno Nevada, IBA heavyweight champ James Toney showed that no matter what his body may look like or what he weighs, he still is as slick and as fast as when he won his first title 14 years ago as a 160 pounder (he weighed 235lbs for this fight). Toney won a unanimous decision over Dominick Guinn by the scores of 119-109, 119-109 and 117-111. Toney countered whatever Guinn tried to do with quick jabs, hooks and uppercuts and never let Guinn in the fight. Toney said that he now wants Klitschko since that is where the money is but will also fight Chris Byrd if given the opportunity.

Olson Defeats Rakoczy for IBA World Title

(SEPT 17) Last night in Lemoore, California, Eliza Olson defeated Jessica Rakoczy in a 10-round world title bout for the IBA and WBC lightweight title. In the ninth round, Olson knocked Rakoczy to the canvas. Final judges scores were  97-92, 97-92, and 98-91.

Al Seeger became the latest IBA World Champion with a impressive eight round display of tactical boxing and combination punching that kept game Cesar Figueroa on his stool for the start of round nine.  Figueroa never quit moving forward but paid a heavy price as Seeger mixed well timed jabs and thudding right hands in each round in this his most impressive showing to date.  Seeger improves to 25-1 with 19 knockouts.  Many thanks to Don

St. John, Davis. and Brakache Win IBA Titles in Beijing, China

(AUG 21) Last night at the Beijing Capital Gym, Beijing, The People's Republic of China, Super Featherweight Antonio Davis, 129, won a 12-round unanimous decision over Frankie Zepeda, 130, for the vacant IBA Super Featherweight title. Final judges scores were 119-109, 120-108, and 120-117.  In two women's matches, Mia “The Knockout” St. John, 133, of Los Angeles, California, now 42-5-2 (17KO),  won a 10-round unanimous decision over South Carolina’s Donna Biggers, 133, now 14-2-1 (13KO),  in a 10-round bout for the IBA continental lightweight title. (AUG 20) Tonight, in Biloxi, Mississippi, In the main event, Ann Wolfe, 167,  retained her IBA light-heavyweight title when she defeated Valerie Mahfood, 165, in a 10-round title bout The event was promoted by Prize Fight Promotions.  More to follow on WBAN.

  Kimbrough wins thriller

(AUG 12) Verquan Kimbrough took home the vacant IBA America's Jr. Lightweight title but had to survive three knockdowns in round ten courtesy of late-sub Marty Robbins before winning widely on all three judges scorecards.  Kimbrough improves to 13-0-1-6KO's.

At the Desert Diamond Casino in Tucson, Arizona, a give and take affair saw IBA rated contender Ernesto 'Baby' Zepeda win the IBA Continental Jr. Welterweight title by split decision over local favorite Norberto Bravo. In the chief support Oscar Andrade met old nemesis Paolino Villalobos and won a convincing decision over twelve rounds to claim the IBA Continental Bantamweight title.  Promoter:  Golden Boy Promotions.  Attendance:  1,564.

 (JULY 21) Tonight at the Palace Indian Gaming Center, in Lemoore, California, on a Fox Sports Net card (aired delayed) Jessica Rakoczy, of Las Vegas, retained her IBA World lightweight title when she stopped Jane Couch of the UK in the sixth round. The card is promoted by Goossen Tutor.  The fight will be televised on Fox Sports Net on Sunday.

Ward Wins Vacant Cruiserweight title

(JULY 15) Tonight at the Gund Arena, in Cleveland, Ohio
Vonda Ward, 188, won the World Cruiserweight IBA belt when she defeated Cassandra Geiggar. with a unanimous decision.  Joe Maxse of the Plain Dealer in Cleveland, said that the fight was nearly ended late in the seventh round when a series a punches forced Geiggar to one knee, and that she she got up after the 8-count from referee Jim Villers.  Maxse added, "but that's about all the good you could say for her underwhelming effort." Final judges scores were 100-88.

(JUN 25) Last night at the Target Center in Minneapolis, Minnesota 6,950 enthusiastic fans turned out to watch local favorite Matt Vanda dethrone defending America's Jr. Middleweight Ramon 'Yory Boy' Campas by split decision over twelve rounds.  With the win new champ Vanda improves to 34-1.  Promoter:  Team Freedom & Direct T.V. PPV.in a defense of her belt on July 21, 2005, in Lemoore, California.

 

Holm Successfully Defends title

(JUN 25) Last night at the Isleta Casino, in New Mexico, In the main event, Holly Holm, 140, (9-1-2, 3KO), of Albuquerque, New Mexico, stopped last-minute opponent, Lisa Lewis, 136, in the ninth round.  Holm successfully defended her IBA Jr. Welterweight title.  Holm was supposed to fight Layla McCarter, but McCarter had broken her hand a week before the fight.

(MAY 28) Last night at the Arco Arena, in Sacramento, California, and promoted by Don Chargin & Telefutura, In his second attempt at the IBA World Jr. Welterweight Championship, Sacramento's Rogelio Castaneda (140.0) broke open a three split after ten
rounds by winning the bouts final two rounds on all cards to earn a majority decision over former IBA Champion Tomas Barrientes (138.75) of Mercedes, Texas. With the title on the line Castaneda dug deep in a bout that was often hard to score while long time rival Craig Weber watched live on 'Telefutura' back home in Mansfield, Ohio. A third bout between the two would seem the
logical choice as their second fight (Draw 12) earned 'Telefutura Fight of the Year' honors for 2004.

  Lopez regains Title

David Lopez, the former IBA World and America's Champion at middleweight regained his America's version with a clear cut twelve victory over tough Danny Perez at the Desert Diamond Casino in Tucson, Arizona this past Thursday night.  Lopez highlighted his victory with a seventh round knockdown of Perez who despite hitting the deck never quit moving forward.  At the bouts conclusion class-act Perez took the championship belt and placed it around the waist of Lopez.  Next for Lopez could be a rematch with reigning IBA World Champion Fulgencio

(MAY 1) With New York City's Madison Square Garden providing the backdrop reigning IBA World Heavyweight Champion James 'Lights Out' Toney combined a strong right hand with the best defense in the division to control WBA Champion John Ruiz from start to finish in the first defense of his IBA World Crown. Ruiz left the ring immediately after the decision was given and would later
announce his retirement from the sport while Toney, improving to 69-4-2 with the win, was calling for IBA #1 contender Vitali Klitscho to meet him in his next World title defense.  Congratulations James!!

Ward Defends her IBA title successfully
April 20, 2005

(APR 30) Last night at the Cleveland State's Wolstein Center, in Cleveland, Ohio, Vonda Ward, now 20-1-0 (17KO), successfully defended her heavyweight IBA title when she stopped Elizabeth Kerin, now 3-4-1 (3KO), of Chicago, Illinois, 1:33 in the second round.   After a devastating start for Ward, when she was knocked with Kerin's first punch to the canvas and stunned by Kerin's shot, Ward came back in the second round and stopped her.  Kerin was a late replacement, after Kathy Rivers and Pamela London, both dropped out of the fight.

(APR 20) Kermit "The Killer" Cintron, 24-0 (22KO), came out to the IBA Gym in Las Vegas to work out on Monday, April 19th.  Cintron will be fighting on April 23, 2005, at the Caesars Palace, in Vegas. Zuniga in title draw!!

(APR 9) At the Fort McDowell Casino in Fountain Hills, Arizona IBA Middleweight Champion Fulgencio Zuniga survived a point deduction in round eight and a knockdown in round ten to retain his title by way of a split decision draw with Mexico's hard punching Jose Luis Zertuche. Zuniga now 17-1-1-16KO's.
